Panacea Medical Technologies to Develop Indigenous 32-Slice CT Scanner

Panacea Medical Technologies Gets TDB Support

New Delhi: Panacea Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Malur, Karnataka, has received support from the Technology Development Board (TDB), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, for the development and commercialisation of an indigenous 32-slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner.

The agreement between TDB and Panacea Medical Technologies aims to strengthen India’s indigenous medical device manufacturing capabilities under the Government of India’s Make in India initiative.

Panacea Medical Technologies is an Indian medical device manufacturer specialising in radiotherapy and radiology.

The company has established capabilities in developing advanced technologies, processes, modules and products for medical imaging and cancer treatment.

Building on its expertise in high-precision imaging, the company has undertaken the development of a diagnostic CT scanner to expand its portfolio into advanced diagnostic imaging.

The project envisages the design, development and deployment of a 32-slice CT scanner for diagnostic imaging across various clinical disciplines.

The initiative is being supported by TDB as part of efforts to enable Indian enterprises to develop advanced medical technologies and strengthen domestic manufacturing.

CT scanners use rotating X-ray systems and digital detectors to capture cross-sectional images. These images are reconstructed through computer algorithms to generate detailed images of internal body structures.

The development of such systems requires precise engineering, integration of imaging components and rigorous calibration to ensure imaging accuracy and patient safety.

For Panacea Medical Technologies, the development of the indigenous 32-slice CT scanner will expand its capabilities beyond its existing focus on radiotherapy and radiology into advanced diagnostic imaging.

India’s diagnostic imaging sector is witnessing growing demand for advanced technologies, driven by expanding healthcare infrastructure, the rising burden of chronic diseases and the need for timely and accurate diagnosis.

Indigenous development of high-end medical equipment can contribute to strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and reducing dependence on imported technologies.

The Government of India has identified medical devices as a priority sector under the Make in India initiative.

Through its support for indigenous technology development, TDB seeks to enable Indian enterprises to develop advanced medical technologies, strengthen domestic manufacturing and improve access to healthcare equipment.

Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, said, “The development of an indigenous CT scanner aligns with the Government of India’s vision of strengthening domestic manufacturing of high-end medical devices under the Make in India initiative.

TDB’s support aims to encourage medical technology companies to develop innovative indigenous solutions that can address the country’s healthcare requirements while creating opportunities for wider adoption in global markets.

Such initiatives can contribute to building India’s capabilities as a manufacturer of advanced medical equipment.”

The support is expected to aid Panacea Medical Technologies in its efforts to develop indigenous diagnostic imaging technology and commercialise the 32-slice CT scanner.

Promoter of Panacea Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd., said, “We express our sincere gratitude to the Technology Development Board for its pivotal support.

This collaboration will accelerate our efforts to develop indigenous diagnostic imaging technology and contribute to making advanced CT imaging more accessible across India.”

The collaboration between TDB and Panacea Medical Technologies comes as India continues to focus on strengthening domestic capabilities in advanced medical equipment and indigenous healthcare technologies.
